August 2018: Production in construction down by 0.5% in both euro area and EU28

In August 2018 compared with July 2018, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector decreased by 0.5% in both the euro area (EA19) and EU28.

In July 2018, production in construction fell by 0.1% in the euro area and remained stable in the EU28. In August 2018 compared with August 2017, production in construction increased by 2.5% in the euro area and by 2.3% in the EU28.

 

 

Monthly comparison- production in construction August 2018, compared with July 2018

  • In the euro area, building construction fell by 0.3% and civil engineering by 1.1%.
  • In the EU28, building construction fell by 0.5% and civil engineering by 0.7%.
  • Largest decreases: Sweden (-2.4%), Germany (-1.8%) and Belgium (-0.9%).
  • Highest increases: Slovenia (+2.8%), Slovakia (+2.5%) and Hungary (+1.9%).

 

Annual comparison – production in construction August 2018, compared with August 2017

  • In the euro area in, building construction rose by 2.5% and civil engineering by 2.4%.
  • In the EU28, building construction rose by 1.6% and civil engineering by 4.0%.
  • Highest increases: Slovenia (+33.5%), Hungary (+24.3%) and Poland (+19.2%).
  • Decreases: Romania (-10.3%), Sweden (-1.6%), Bulgaria and Spain (both -1.2%).
