February 2018: Industrial production down by 0.8% in euro area

In February 2018 compared with January 2018, seasonally adjusted industrial production fell by 0.8% in the euro area (EA19) and by 0.7% in the EU28.

In January 2018, industrial production fell by 0.6% in the euro area and by 0.3% in the EU28. In February 2018 compared with February 2017, industrial production increased by 2.9% in the euro area and by 3.1% in the EU28.

 

 

Monthly comparison – industrial production February 2018, compared with January 2018

  • Decrease of 0.8% in the euro area due to production of capital goods falling by 3.6%, durable consumer goods by 2.1%, intermediate goods by 0.8% and non-durable consumer goods by 0.5%, while production of energy rose by 6.8%.
  • In the EU28, decrease of 0.7% due to production of capital goods falling by 2.7%, durable consumer goods by 1.6%, intermediate goods by 1.0% and non-durable consumer goods by 0.4%, while production of energy rose by 5.1%.
  • Largest decreases: Lithuania (-3.9%), Estonia (-2.7%), Malta and Portugal (both -2.3%),
  • Highest increases: Latvia and the Netherlands (both +3.9%), and Croatia (+2.1%).

 

Annual comparison – industrial production February 2018, compared with February 2017

  • Increase of 2.9% in the euro area due to production of energy rising by 5.7%, intermediate goods by 2.9%, non-durable consumer goods by 2.4%, capital goods by 2.2% and durable consumer goods by 0.8%.
  • In the EU28, increase of 3.1% due to production of energy rising by 4.6%, capital goods by 3.2%, intermediate goods by 3.1%, non-durable consumer goods by 2.2% and durable consumer goods by 1.4%.
  • Highest increases: Latvia (+8.7%), Poland (+7.5%) and Slovenia (+7.2%).
  • Decreases: Malta (-7.7%), Greece (-1.9%) and Bulgaria (-1.0%).
